Enjoyable day of lectures at St John’s College in Cambridge

Collyer’s students recently attended a full day of lectures and tours at St John’s College, Cambridge. As part of the continually rolling ‘Planning Your Future’ programme, students visited St John’s Divinity Hall for a series of lectures, advice, tours, and question and answer sessions.

Ian McAlister, who runs the college’s Progression Directorate, with a particular focus on Higher Education, said: “We have around 600 students applying for higher education and further education courses each year, including around 50 early applications to Oxford, Cambridge or Veterinary and Medical courses.

“Ensuring the students have the best chance of success depends on not only excellent teaching, but also hard-work and careful preparation. Today forms a vital part of this process.”

During the day students enjoyed stimulating sessions on Competitive Applications with Megan Goldham Roberts and a discussion session on decoding language from PHD student Sam Wolfe.

The students were also fascinated by the work of PHD student Kerstin Goprich, as she described folding DNA!

Principal Sally Bromley said: “Thank you so much to St John’s for kindly hosting us today. We’ve been warmly welcomed and I was particularly pleased that our students took careful notes during an insightful session on writing competitive applications.”
