The Model United Nations (MUN) team at Christ’s Hospital dressed up in dinner jackets and cocktail dresses for its annual Diplomatic Dinner held each March.

The special event celebrated a year of extraordinary successes for the School’s MUN programme, which aims to develop global citizenship amongst the next generation of world thinkers and leaders.

In total, the team has won more than twenty-five different awards over the past twelve months, competing at conferences attended by hundreds of young people from schools across the world. This spectacular haul of silverware included winning the highest team prize – the prestigious Outstanding Delegation Award – at three of the major international competitions it attended.

The students also found time during a hectic year to organise two conferences at their own school. In the Autumn, Christ’s Hospital hosted more than 200 students from other schools for a simulation of the UN Security Council during a global crisis. Another conference hosted by the School in the Summer recreated the deliberations of the International Court of Justice. Both of the events were managed and organised by the students themselves.

The dinner began with a drinks reception accompanied by music provided the pupils. The school’s chefs then spoiled guests with a four course meal, lit by candles and the open fire.

Dr Alistair Goddard, who organises the MUN programme at Christ’s Hospital said: “The MUN Diplomatic Dinner is always a very special event. The whole team works incredibly hard to achieve such amazing results, so it is a delight to be able to reward everyone for their extraordinary efforts. Students really look forward to the dinner. This year, some even made their own dresses for the event in their textile classes!”

The MUN programme at Christ’s Hospital is sponsored by the Amicable Society of Blues.
