Colourful autumn show in Ewhurst

The Autumn Show of the Ewhurst Horticultural Society was a colourful event in spite of the unusual weather and unseasonably cold nights.

One exhibitor, Olive Lewis aged 92 said her dahlias had struggled with bank voles early on and deer later all chewing her plants but she still won the Dilley Cup for the best exhibit in the show.

Anne Dyball regained the Norris Cup gaining most points for her vegetables including five firsts.

The McGuire Shield was again won by Richard Munford with the most points in the flowers and pot plants section. In the Homefare classes Catherine van’t Riet was the winner of the Spence Cup with some tasty gingerbread ,scones and a savoury loaf.

Georgina Whorlow’s colourful floral art work won the Spiers Trophy. This year four beekeepers entered honey in the new class. The judge remarked on the good , clear quality of all of them.

Daniel Elms won with his model in the 8 years and under class while Isabella Matthews and Lucy Payne baked and decorated beautiful biscuits to take joint first prize.

The many visitors enjoyed the show and took part in the auctioning of some of the produce and the raffle.
