Over one hundred and thirty lots will be hosted on www.the-saleroom.com and sold within a timed auction. Viewing will commence both online and in our Sussex Saleroom from Friday 17th April. The bidding finale will be on Sunday 26th April at 20.00hrs.

Hazel Gomes was born in Goa in 1949, and studied at Sir JJ School of Arts Bombay and St Martins School of Art. She has worked as an illustrator since the 1970’s for Vogue UK, Vogue France, ELLE and Marie Claire France, and has done advertising campaigns for Galleries Lafayette and Armand Thiery. Her work for the Dutch store Peek & Clopenburg was exhibited at the Stedelijke Museum of Modern Art Amsterdam in 1979. Hazel has travelled extensively working for Roberto Cavalli and for Yves Saint Laurent designing textiles and jewellery. Her paintings have been exhibited in Paris and London since the 1980’s, most recently at The Jonathan Ross Gallery, London, in 2012. Her paintings are on view on Saatchi online. The works in this auction are the collection of the late Johnny Moke.

A notable highlight of the collection includes lot 2443, ‘Bathing in Red Swimsuits’, dating from 1980 (illustrated). Bellmans Managing Director Jonathan Pratt has commented that the work “epitomises that style and atmosphere of the 1980’s: if there were a musical soundtrack to this collection, it would have been written by AHA. Coincidently, we are offering in the same auction a collection of presentation gold, platinum and silver discs from the 1980’s including Queen, Duran Duran and AHA”. He enthuses that “it is not often an auctioneer has the opportunity to sell such a collection, where very few examples of an artist’s work have been offered at auction before. It is a unique opportunity to invest in items which very rarely come up for sale”.

Bellmans are proud to offer for sale these collections, which represent the internationally respected work of two extraordinarily talented individuals. For more information and to register your interest, please contact Bellmans Auctioneers directly on 01403 700858, or email [email protected]
