After winning the schools ASSH football tournament organised by Forest school on the 27/03/14, having played teams from all over the Horsham area, Colgate finished the tournament undefeated, scoring 23 goals and conceding only 3. These games only lasted 10 minutes with 5 minutes played in each half; the biggest win on the day was against Holy Trinity winning 6-0.

The next football tournament Colgate took part in was the Broadbridge Heath Primary Schools football league with over 23 schools entering, from all over Sussex. These included schools from Steyning.

These were played over three dates with teams placed into two groups, division A and B. Colgate was placed into division A and played 10 games, winning 8, drawing 1, losing 1, scoring 31 and conceding only 9 goals. What makes this more special was that they didn’t have a goalkeeper and so all of the outfield players had to take it in turn to go in goal.

After the last league games had been played, Colgate finished the league in 2nd place. Leechpool A had won A division and Greenway had won the B division league.

At the semi-finals, Colgate had 2 key players missing. Both teams were eager to win and just before half time Colgate scored.

In the second half Greenway scored and after some very exciting play, the game finished 2-2. This brought extra time and again it was a very even game. Then with about a minute to go, Colgate scored again. The final whistle going and Colgate were into the finals.

What a great final with Leechpool A playing Colgate. The final score was 3 – 0 to Colgate and reflected the teams hard work and great sportsmanship playing strongly as a team.

Tony Popham has been coaching the team for three years and has been thrilled to watch how the team has flourished and how they played as individuals and as a team. He is very proud of the team who come from a very small school.
