Celebration of Sussex and the South Downs

More than 15,000 members of the University of the Third Age (U3A) had the chance to be involved in the project, supported by the South Downs National Park Authority.

Many who took part will be showing their work, which celebrates the history, wildlife, literature, poetry, art, crafts, music, industry and traditions of Sussex and the South Downs National Park.

The free event runs from 10.30 – 16:00 on 12 July and is open to all. Highlights include:

l A literary corner of poetry and short stories

l A gallery with paintings and other art work

l Music – singing, handbells, saxophone and recorders, plus a performance by the South Downs Folk Singers

l Snacks and drinks, with an outdoor patio area overlooking the South Downs National Park to relax

l Displays by the South Downs National Park Authority and the South Downs Society

The event is easy to access by train, bus & car with disabled parking near the entrance.

There are now 40 U3As (University of the Third Age) throughout Sussex with over 15,000 members. U3As are for those, no longer in full time employment, who wish to learn and keep active.

Members share their knowledge and experience, and participate in a wide range of educational, creative and leisure activities. As well as organising their own activities, the 40 Sussex U3As collaborate in the Sussex U3A Network (SUN) to organise Sussex-wide activities.
