Brewery and Nuthurst pub sponsor £500 charity quiz evening

The Long Man Brewery in Litlington and the Black Horse Inn in Nuthurst combined forces just before Christmas to sponsor the pub’s last charity quiz in 2013 and help raise £500 for St Catherine’s Hospice in Crawley.

While the award-winning brewery donated a firkin of its Best Bitter (a 72 pint barrel!) as the evening’s prize, the pub laid on a special fish & chip supper for the 50 quizzers who squeezed into the picturesque 17th century hostelry.

After a gruelling 2½ hours of questions, including the pub’s notorious Connections Round, Downside Up from Storrington emerged as the winners of the barrel of beer, just edging Brain Dead (Cowfold) and the Latecomers (Hurstpierpoint) into second and third places respectively.

The £500 raised on the night for St Catherine’s brought the total raised in 2013 for the hospice to more than £3,000. This will be presented when the Black Horse’s weekly quiz starts up again in 2014, on Wednesday 15 January.

“The Long Man Brewery and the Black Horse did a great job in making the last quiz of the year such a memorable evening,” said quizmaster Nick Cowley. “We all appreciated their generosity in helping the quiz raise a record amount in 2013, and we hope to raise even more in 2014.
