Boarders visit the Tower of London

I visited the Tower of London with the Farlington Boarders recently. The Tower of London is marking 100 years since the start of the First World War with 888,245 ceramic poppies that circle the grounds of this iconic landmark creating a beautiful spectacle.

It is also a very emotional view, as each poppy represents a soldier who fought in the war and sadly lost his life. This made me feel quite heavy-hearted; it’s so unbelievable that so many soldiers had to lose their lives to the war. The poppies are a powerful visual statement that shows the number of brave and lost soldiers.

The extraordinary sight made me reflect on how proud I am of the British Troops, who fought to protect us 100 years ago and the British Troops who fight today, risking their lives to protect our country; they are truly inspirational. I’m also very proud of my dad, who is in the army, and leaves family and friends for weeks or even months to risk his life and fight for Britain. Getting the chance to witness the remembrance of the 100 years since the First World War was truly special and memorable.
