The Swan Walk management team briefed students to create the mural, which is themed around early learning.

The use of the bright colours and cheery themes has been creatively designed to appeal to the very young.

Art and Design teacher Amanda Hall said: “It was an extremely hot week, but I was very proud of students’ dedication to the task. Every student from our Graphic Communication class contributed to the mural, with many painting for several hours each day under really tiring conditions.

“The previous mural was also painted by students from this course several years ago and the weather was just as hot: Those students are 25 years old now!”

Graphic Communication is a highly specialised full A Level course, offered at only a few colleges across the region, for students wishing to pursue a career in commercial visual arts. Specialised tuition in advertising, illustration, publishing, typography and animation is offered by tutors with sound industry experience.

Amanda Hall added: “Progression from the course has been to prestigious degree courses and many past students keep in touch with tutors and current cohort, offering valuable advice on latest developments in the creative sector. Wherever possible, live projects are run in partnership with community organizations and businesses.

Collyer’s Vice Principal Steve Nicholls was impressed with the work: “We have an outstanding Faculty for Arts and Communication and the mural in Swan Walk is a stunning representation of their fantastic work. Well done to Amanda and her creative students!”
