Louise explained: “This was an amazing opportunity to get a feel for what it’s like to be a student at the Courthauld, I enjoyed being able to talk to people my age who shared my interest and enthusiasm for Art History. We attend a range of lectures and seminars over the week around the theme of ‘local and global’, this allowed us to discuss and develop our own ideas.

“The course really helped to expand my understanding of Art, in addition to building on skills which are essential to any student.”

The highlight of the week was a chance to visit to the Conservation Studios, to see the fascinating collision between Art and Science.

Louise added: “Next year I will be applying for History of Art at University, the Courthauld being one of my options, afterwards I aspire to do a post-graduate in the Conservation of Art.”

Groups of students also had the opportunity to curate their own exhibition around the Courthauld’s collection, which was presented at the end of the week. Louise’s group created an exhibition about the effects of the development of photography on paintings in the 19th century.

Louise’s tutor at Collyer’s, Amanda Hall, was delighted: “I was so impressed with Louise’s presentation at Somerset House. She was the first speaker and her ideas and comments were very well received by the audience. Teachers and parents were also shown an overview of the Summer University at The Courthauld Institute of Art. It is an impressive week of activities and I shall certainly be encouraging more of my students to apply.”
