I would also like to point out that, according to Horsham District Council website, the £12 annual permit is for short stays but the maximum stay time varies from one rural car park to another. I have found one with a maximum stay time of one hour, another with two hours, several with three hours and one with four hours. Then, of course, there are those car parks which have been excluded from this new arrangement for various reasons. They will offer free parking.

I believe the excuse for the proposed charges was to standardise all the car parks as Horsham District Council believed it was confusing for residents and visitors. How can this be standardised with all these different arrangements?

Then there are the added costs of installing the Pay & Display machines. What hasn’t been mentioned is the machines will only be set up to accept debit/credit cards (Horsham District Council website). There are some people who will not use a card to pay at one of these machines. Will you have to enter a pin number? No idea.

As a resident of Pulborough I am concerned of the impact of these changes to Lower Street. Our local shops are under enough pressure now with the loss of banks and post office. Then, of course, as though all of this wasn’t enough our Cabinet members have decided to increase the business season tickets from £21 to £130 (Horsham District Council website) to hit them even more.

Well, this is the same situation as Steyning in that Pulborough will also be fighting to survive.

When will Horsham District Council actually listen to residents and local businesses?
