LETTER: Return of the Riverside Walk

It's good to see that the annual walk around Horsham is to take place on Saturday July 16 starting from the Rugby Club car park at 10am.

This circular walk around our rapidly expanding town, mostly through the remaining country and alongside the Arun and tributaries, is a visual joy as well as good exercise.

It will circle the town this time in an anti-clockwise direction. This is good because one is able to read, on the beautifully presented information boards, what to look out for as one progresses (not what you have just passed going clockwise).

The whole route is 13 miles in length but you do not have to do the whole distance as there are many points where you can actually join or leave and it is not a race although a certificate will be awarded on completion.

It would be a good idea to take a camera as there will be a competition for photographs taken on the walk.

There is so much to see on this lovely walk. I was lucky enough to watch a white albino squirrel.

Living on one side of the town one can find interesting areas that one has never before seen on another side.

Having memories of the lovely old Horsham that existed in the war years it is good to see that there is still a little countryside left to enjoy. We must make the most of it before we are finally joined up with Crawley!

For this July 16 walk there will be the opportunity to take a morning break at New House Farm Café for toilets, food and drink.

For lunch sandwiches and drink (£4.50) will be available at Warnham Nature Reserve in tents kindly provided by 1st Roffey Scouts.

Dogs are allowed but must be on leads. The paths are navigable for mobility scooters.

All we need now is for the sun to smile on us on July 16 for this free day out as, I am sure there will be many people, including our MP Mr Jeremy Quin enjoying the walk.
