LETTER: Problems with hospital trip

On Monday 16th May, I was due at a cancer clinic at St Luke’s, Guildford, at midday.

At about 9am I rang Coperforma which confirmed a booking had been made for me. By 11.30am I rang them again to be told that my transport was in the Haywards Heath area at the time.

I then received a call from the ambulance crew saying they were about 40 minutes away and I in turn told them that the trip to St Luke’s would be another 40 minutes.

They then advised me to ring the hospital to check whether my clinic would still be running by the time we arrived there, only to be told that it would have finished. The hospital said they would cancel the transport.

At this point I had to test my blood sugar level, take my insulin dose and start to prepare a meal. Whilst telephoning my nurse specialist to report the carry-on, who should arrive but my transport crew.

They were full of apologies, and I told them what I thought of the new company that had taken over from the South Coast Ambulance Service SECAMB.

I can’t tell you their response other than that they used to work for SECAMB, but it was obvious what they would like to say.
