There has always been a problem with litter but in all those years, the state of the roadside verges has never been as bad as it is this winter.

Nearly every road is blighted by all sorts of discarded junk such as bottles, packets, wrappers plastic bags etc.

I would be interested to know what steps local councils are able to afford to cleaning up this shambles. Are they constrained by lack of funds?

But surely the basic problem is the attitude of many who fail to see that their thoughtlessness is responsible for the disgraceful state.

I believe that education should embrace this problem and set in the minds of young people a new attitude.

The problem is not restricted to West Sussex.

I drive quite often into neighbouring Surrey and the roadsides there are no better.
