LETTER: Accept the vote and let's get on

And there was a wailing and a gnashing of teeth... Petulance? Intellectual arrogance? Fear?

What is it about a few, but very strident, ‘remainers’ who are metaphorically stamping their feet like spoiled children and crying ‘it’s not fair’, when a majority decision goes against them?

They go on to take every opportunity to run this country down and claim that the majority were bamboozled by ‘Brexit propaganda’, thus by definition inferring that leave voters are fools. Various claims were made by BOTH sides in the heat of the argument which may indeed not stand up.

Why do countries such as Canada, the USA, Australia and New Zealand exist? Why is the English language the western world language?

I suggest that a study of history reveals that Great Britain has long been out in the world rather than ‘in’ Europe and we have only intervened in Europe at great cost in lives and treasure in an effort to stabilise that continent over the years.

Yes, we need Europe, but it is a mutual need. They need our trade as we need theirs. We need to share the excellent cultural links. We need to share in sciences.

What we DON’T need is the undemocratic, dubious political ‘goings on’ and corruption that is endemic within the EEC which, if it survives, is now quite capable of being sorted by France and Germany as they have at long last buried the hatchet.

Trade, security and defence YES. Political and economic and judicial integration NO.

Please, harbingers of doom, stop moaning and raise your eyes, accept the decision and let’s get on with life.
