Horsham reached the top of the Southern Combination League again and exclaimed: ‘No more excuses’.
A convincing 3-1 win away to previous leaders Newhaven saw the Hornets reclaim pole position in the Premier Division on Saturday.
Through the win and rain, Horsham sailed past the Dockers which left manager Dominic Di Paola to say he won’t be looking to justify any more slips up.
He thinks his squad have the quality and experience to kick on now, not matter the state of the pitch, injury problems or any other circumstances.
He said: “I did a bit of soul searching after the Steyning game and you can’t make excuses. The fact we play a different style of football is irrelevant.
“We cannot make excuses as we have older heads and experienced heads in the team and enough to deal with anyone, we have got to be on it.
“We turned up at Arundel earlier in the season, realised it was going to be hard to play football and that was in our minds.
“And it’s what I have said to them, if we want to do anything this season we have got to get on with it - you get bad pitches and injuries.
“We cannot make excuses and you won’t hear it from me any more this season. You have to turn up and deal with the conditions on the day.”
Player movements have seen Jordan Clark sign for Ryman League side Worthing last week, while Hornets have brought in former England Colleges striker Luke Huggett.
The ex-Brighton & Hove Albion centre of excellence and Crawley Town player moved to America in 2010 where he scored 49 goals and captaining Cloud County College to glory.
Horsham host Eastbourne United at Gorings Mead on Saturday.
