Last month saw the beginning of a new season for the Horsham Speakers Club with one of their members Angus Lincoln achieving the Advanced Certificate of Achievement.

The Horsham Speakers Club, which is part of the nationwide Association of Speakers Clubs, is fast gaining a formidable reputation in the world of public speaking.

One of the biggest clubs in the organisation, the club is known for its friendly and relaxed atmosphere and welcomes speakers from the most timid and unconfident to the most experienced and professional.

Members are encouraged to work their way through 10 levels in order to achieve a Certificate of Achievement (with an interim certificate being awarded after level 5) before going on to attempt the Advanced Certificate of Achievement qualification.

But members are free to take part at their own pace and lots of support, encouragement and advice is provided along the way.

Last season saw a number of the club’s members, both new and old, celebrating success including Anna Campbell, Tracey Grabowski, Marietjie Troskie, Iain Pakinson, Mel Leddy, Peter Hamilton, Lucy Pitts who achieved their ASC Interim Certificate of Achievement and Chris Hindle, John Eaton, Marietjie Troskie who achieved the ASC Ordinary Certificate of Achievement. And Angus Lincoln who successfully completed the ASC Advanced Certificate of Achievement. Angus’s success follows the completion of 5 assignments which include a 10 minute impromptu speech.

The club has an impressive membership of speakers at every level.

The result is a dynamic and fun club which takes part in the regional and national competition each year and is producing local public speakers of exceptional ability.

And in addition to the various speaking levels the club is very proactive in organising all sorts of other activities to help its members improve their skills and gain confidence.

Current president of the club John Eaton said: “We’re exceptionally proud of the high level of our achievement of our club. But we’re also really proud of all our members who join us from many different walks of life and with different levels of speaking experience.

“ It’s a really fun club and a huge pleasure to watch each and every member improve and gain confidence. I am thrilled that Angus has successfully completed the advanced level qualification and I am looking forward to welcoming new members and celebrating new successes.

“And if you are nervous of public speaking, you needn’t be, because we do everything we can to take to make it fun.”

The club meets at the Tythe Barn in Pondtail Road in Horsham on the second and last Tuesdays of the month and you can find out more at or by contacting Lucy at
