The new National President of Rotary International of Britain and Ireland, Peter Davey, and his wife Sandra, came to Stooks Restaurant in Newbridge Nurseries to meet district members.
Peter and Sandra both hail from Devon where he joined Yeovil Rotary Club in 1990, but the bank he was working for moved Peter to Wales. Later he moved into independent education management. Sandra is also a Rotarian and launched a project to send good quality baby clothes to maternity units in Eastern Europe. She also kept a flock of Jacob sheep before Peter’s appointment as President meant they would be far too busy to look after them, and they had to be sold.
While at Newbridge Nurseries Peter dropped in to check on the progress of Santa’s Grotto, which the Billingshurst Rotarians will be manning before Christmas. He also heard about the famous Horsham Elephant Trail, and complimented Horsham Rotary Club for thinking of something new to raise funds, and bring people into Horsham from far and wide. Down in Bristol he said they had been able to use the local ‘Shaun the Sheep’.
As President, Peter will be visiting every District before he relinquishes the post next July.
