It will be the only such programme in Horsham run by the Prince’s Trust, and will involve work experience placements at local businesses and projects supporting the community.

Stephen Arundel, 34, of Worthing, a Prince’s Trust team leader who will run the programme, said: “It’s a bit corny but I like to think we’re changing the world one seven billionth at a time and each young person leaves in a better place than they were before.

“They all come out of it with something.”

The course aims to have all 15 participants progress into work, training or education.

They will all receive a qualification at the end of the course and it is to run three times a year starting next week.

The team leader said: “They are given responsibilities to find their own places but we are here to support them, and with the Prince’s Trust brand a lot of businesses are receptive to the work experience placements.”

The first two weeks of the course will focus on team-building and planning, and include a residential trip to Lodge Hill in Pulborough.

The next four weeks are dedicated to community projects.

Weeks seven and eight are for work placements, and the final four weeks are for developing CVs and employability skills.

The young people will give a presentation to invited members of the community, for which Stephen aims to include local celebrities.

Stephen, who used to work with special needs students in Worthing, said: “I just became massively rewarding being able to go home at the end of the day and think that I’ve made such a difference in someone’s life today and that is what is important to me.”
