THE OFFICERS Club has become the second large retailer to close in West Street, Horsham, in a matter of weeks, after the company went into administration with the loss of 500 jobs.

Last month, the British Book Shops and Stationers store in West Street also closed its doors, making ten people redundant.

Newsagent and stationery chain WH Smith bought 22 of the British Bookshops’ 50 stores but Horsham’s shop in West Street was not included in the deal.

National media reported that Grant Thornton had been appointed as administrator for The Officers Club, and roughly half the business, representing the remaining 400 staff employed, has been sold to Blue Inc.
