At 5.21am on Monday, July 22, Hayley Thomas gave birth to her second child, Jacob, at East Surrey Hospital.

The 28-year-old said: “Before I had him everyone was saying ‘I wonder if it will be the same day’ and then I actually did.

“I was induced and I had him naturally with no drugs and I did that with my first born too which I’m quite proud of.”

She also explained that Jacob, who weighed in at 8lbs - 6 ounces lighter than the future king, was settling in nicely at their home in Medway Court with her eldest son, five-year-old Marly, and her partner 29-year-old Steward Siatous.

Hayley was able to go home with her son just four hours after the birth and watched the historic Royal moment unfold on television.

“Obviously everyone thought the Royal baby was going to be a girl, but being a boy makes it really nice,” she added.

“I will be watching the Royal baby grow up, especially now they share the same birthday. I probably would have anyway but I’ve got more interest now.”

Jacob was one of eight babies in total to be born at East Surrey Hospital on July 22 . Five were boys, three were girls with the closest time of birth to the future king, a baby from Purley, being born at 3.44pm.

The Royal Mint is now giving away 2,013 silver pennies to the babies born on the same day as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s son.

Hayley is hopeful that she will receive one of the coins. She explained: “It’s really good, I’ve been looking into it and hopefully fingers crossed we’ll get one because I know they’re limited.”
