Jeremy Quin MP is supporting his local Cancer Research UK shop with their award winning fundraising work.
The Horsham MP pledged his support to help beat cancer sooner after visiting the charity’s shop on East Street, Horsham on Thursday July 23.
In recognition of their outstanding contribution to the cause the store recently scooped the title ‘shop of the year’ in Cancer Research UK’s annual Flame of Hope Awards, beating hundreds of the charity’s shops across the UK.
The MP teamed up with prize winning staff and volunteers at the shop to help highlight the power of research in beating cancer and the vital role its customers are playing in the fight against the disease.
Mr Quin MP said: “I’m delighted to support my local Cancer Research UK shop and congratulate the volunteers for winning an award for all their hard work.
“Every day, around 120 people are diagnosed with cancer in the South East.
“But the good news is, people like the dedicated volunteers I met in Horsham are enabling the charity’s doctors and scientists to carry out life-saving work that means more people are surviving the disease.”
Cancer Research UK Assistant shop manager, Janice Hawker, said: “It’s great to have the support of Jeremy Quin MP to help raise awareness, as there’s still so much more we need to do to ensure no-one’s life is cut short by cancer.
“Survival rates have doubled in the last 40 years and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of this progress.
“However, it’s only thanks to the generosity and commitment of our customers, supporters and volunteers that we can continue to make a real difference and bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.”
Cancer Research UK relies on the local community to keep the shop stocked and is always in need of good quality donations of clothes, shoes, bags, homeware, books, CDs and DVDs. Each bag of donated items could be worth up to £25 for the charity’s life-saving research.
