Southern Water said the issue was reported at about 2am on Sunday (November 13), affecting homes in the Kingsfold, Broadbridge Heath, Warnham and Rowhook areas.

The water provider received more than 120 calls from residents as engineers worked throughout the night and into the afternoon to make emergency repairs.

A spokesman for Souther Water said: “While we carried out the repair we provided bottled water to customers in need and sent out updates via our website and social media channels, as well as specific information updates via our phone lines.

“Due to the complexity of the repair the work took a little longer than expected, however the fix was complete by early afternoon and all customers water supply should have been restored by Sunday evening.

“We advised affected customers that when the supply returned they may notice some discolouration or low pressure at first; this is completely normal when there’s been a disruption to the supply and is only temporary.

“We’d like to apologise to those affected customers for any inconvenience and thank them for their patience and understanding while we carried out this vital work.”
