Arundel Castle is set to host a thrilling two-day Medieval Tournament on June 18-19 – the perfect precursor to its sensational Medieval Joust and Tournament Week the following month (July 26-31).

Medieval knights from up and down the country will take up arms and participate in the tournament which will take place under the oldest part of the castle, with a large tented encampment covering the American Lawns.

Visitors will be gripped by a series of powerful clashes using a range of weaponry, including pole arm weapons, single-handed swords and hand-and-a-half swords.

Aside from the skirmishes, visitors will be able to enjoy beautiful ancient melodies performed by Rough Musicke and tales from years gone by re-enlivened by a 15th Century storyteller, as well as crafts showcases, cookery demonstrations and breath-taking falconry displays.

For younger visitors (eight years and older) there is also the opportunity to hone their bow and arrow skills, with have-a-go archery sessions throughout the weekend.

Castle Manager Bryan McDonald commented: “I very much look forward to seeing the action unfold at Arundel Castle over the coming weeks, I am certain that it will be as captivating as ever!”
