A man has died and a woman and three children were taken to hospital after a crash on Thursday (December 10).
Emergency services were called to the A2037 Shoreham Road, between Henfield and Small Dole, at around 9.20am.
Police said the crash involved a Volvo estate car and a Subaru. Officers said the Subaru flipped onto its roof after colliding with a hedge.
A 22-year-old local man, driving the Subaru, died at the scene.
A 43-year-old woman, from Washington, driving the Volvo, along with a six-year-old boy, a 17-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, in Brighton.
A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said the 17-year-old sustained facial injuries and was also suffering from back and neck pain.
They added the 11-year-old was suffering from ‘pelvic pain’ and the six-year-old was suffering from back pain. All were treated at the scene before being taking to hospital as a priority.
Police, firefighters and ambulance crews all attended the crash along with members of the Air Ambulance.
The road was blocked in both directions between the Nep Town Road junction and the A281 Brighton Road junction.
It has now been re-opened.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw what happened or who saw either vehicle being prior to the collision to contact them by emailing email@example.com or by phoning 101, quoting Operation Angling.
