A spokesman said Border Force officers discovered the Class A drug hidden in the false bottom of a suitcase on Sunday (April 17).

It was seized when a passenger was stopped after arriving on a flight from St Lucia, the spokesman added.

The investigation has now been passed to the National Crime Agency.

Sue Young, Border Force south director said: “Border Force officers play a crucial role in securing our borders against drug smuggling.

“In this case, their professionalism has meant that dangerous Class A drugs have been seized and will no longer end up in our communities where they can do a lot of harm.

“Working closely with law enforcement colleagues at the NCA we are determined to prevent drug trafficking and put those responsible behind bars.”

A 40-year-old St Vincent man, Hudson Kenuet Rohan Prescod, has been charged with importing a Class A drug, the Home Office said.

Prescod, of no fixed UK address, appeared at Croydon Magistrates Court on Monday (April 18) and was remanded in custody to appear at Croydon Crown Court on May 23.
