Road users had to be careful yesterday afternoon when level crossing gates got stuck.

According to eyewitnesses, the gates at the Parsonage Road level crossing in Horsham could not close, despite the warning lights flashing.

A spokesperson for Network Rail said: “We had a problem with Parsonage Road level crossing in Horsham at around 2pm yesterday.

“Several passers by called us to report that the red lights were flashing but the barriers were still up in the air.

“While there was no danger of a train passing, we really appreciate their public spirit in letting us know and our technicians were able to get to site and mend the problem.

We had everything back to normal by 4pm.”

A spokesperson for Southern Rail said that trains were not delayed by the malfunction, but were under caution, meaning they were told to travel much slower in this area.

The issue also happened Monday evening at around 6.30pm and is pictured above.
