Ladies learn car mechanics

On Thursday June 16, ten women from Horsham and the surrounding areas took part in a special Ladies Night car maintenance event at family-run Skoda dealership Station Garage.

The evening event was the 7th Ladies Night Station Garage has run from their premises on Billingshurst Road in Broadbridge Heath, with each event growing in popularity.

The women were provided with a unique opportunity to learn basic car mechanics such as how to change a tyre or monitor PSI (Pounds per Square inch), check oil and water levels or jump start a vehicle, all in a safe and secure environment. Challenges included identifying dashboard warning signals and knowing when to either take immediate action or seek mechanical help at a later stage using a red, amber and green system, as well as detecting key elements under the bonnet such as a car’s radiator and coolant input and oil dipstick.

At the end of night, they put their new found knowledge to the test in a tyre change competition and all ten ladies completed the challenge without hesitation.

The women were also treated to drinks and nibbles throughout and given the opportunity to pose as many car related questions they liked to Station Garage’s Master Technician Paul Westbrook and Technician Stuart Miller who between them have over 30 years of experience in the motoring industry.

James Thorpe, Dealer Principal at Station Garage, commented: “We have been delighted with the success of our Ladies Night events with this last one proving just as popular with local women. Everyone that participated seemed to really enjoy themselves and walked away a lot more confident with their new-found car knowledge.”

The next Ladies Night workshop at Station Garage will be on Thursday September 15. The event is free to attend but spaces are limited. Email [email protected]
