Judges’ tough task lookingat community chest awards

WITH nearly 200 applications for financial support from community groups and good causes across West Sussex to consider, the judges of this year’s Community Chest have had their work cut out.

Each year, brewers Hall and Woodhouse - which launched and runs the community chest - give £15,000 to be divided between deserving applications.

Working with their media partners - which include this newspaper and Spirit FM - every request is carefully considered.

The process is always a tough one - as difficult choices have to be made - and the judges will visit some of the good causes to help in the assessment process.

Pictured at the judging day held at The Olive Branch in Horsham were: Mary Carruthers, Sussex Community Foundation; Sally Large, MD, Spirit FM; Mark Woodhouse, chairman of Hall and Woodhouse; and Gary Shipton, Editor In Chief of this newspaper.

A special presentation evening will be held later in the summer when those selected to receive cash awards are announced.
