Joggers get 2015 of to a sprint start at Lancing

Horsham Joggers got 2015 off to a flying start at the Brooks Sussex Masters Cross-Country Championships at Lancing on Saturday.

On what is always a tough course, this year the rain during the preceding week made the conditions slippery .

In the over-50 race, Dean Angell 32min 55sec finished in fourth place, Pete O’Connell seventh in 33-41, and Paul Adams 15th in 35-30, giving them second place in the team competition.

The top three teams were separated by just two points. Brighton and Hove AC won with 24 points and Phoenix AC were third with 26 points.

There was an outstanding team result at the prestigious South of England Athletic Association Masters Cross Country Championships in Oxford.

The team of Steve Wigmore, Dean Angell and Pete O’Connell took bronze medals in the veteran 50 to 54 category. They finished in 17th, 18th and 19th respectively – with times of 40-07, 40-10 and 40-13.

Neil Boniface started his year on a high by breaking the course record at the Tadworth 10, finishing in 53-36.

In the first West Sussex Fun Run League race of the series – The Hangover 5 on New Year’s Day – Dan Pettitt 34-55, Rob Croker 35-44 and Janine Littler 41-23 all scored maximum points.
