A Thakeham-born founder and inventor has obtained a UK patent for his latest product – the Air Cradle patient transfer system.
David Edmund Talbot Garman OBE, who will be 95 in May, designed the product with his eldest son Rupert for David E.T. Garman Concepts Limited.
The Air Cradle patient transfer system is able to sit a person up from the supine position and slide the person around from surface to surface, as required, with the Air Cradle.
It also has the ability to lie a person down from the seated position providing comfort for patients, including those requiring particularly delicate handling and transfer.
David, the former chairman and owner of Mangar International Limited (Mangar Health), is a leading British inventor and was awarded the British Healthcare Trades Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.
He was also honoured for his services to the healthcare industry by HM Queen Elizabeth II in the New Year’s Honours List 2015.
He was made an Officer at the Order of the British Empire (OBE) at Windsor Castle on July 17, 2015.
David ET Garman Concepts Limited is the corporate assingee of David’s intellectual property and was founded in September 2013.
Rupert, an international commercial lawyer, said: “It is envisaged that the manufacture and global sale of the revolutionary Air Cradle patient transfer system will soon be licensed to a suitable global healthcare company or companies.”
