People have been invited to don a red Santa suit and join hundreds of runners who will raise money for St Catherine’s Hospice.
Crawley’s Santa Run 2015 will start at K2 Crawley leisure centre, Pease Pottage Hill, at 10am on Sunday (November 22).
Participants will get suits and children under six red Santa hats free of charge. The run follows a 2km route around the K2 or a new 5km track.
St Catherine’s Hospice, Malthouse Road, Crawley, provides end-of-life care and support to terminally ill people and their families across Crawley, Horsham, East Surrey and Mid Sussex. 80 per cent of its patients are cared for at home.
Michaela Clements, Events Fundraiser at St Catherine’s, said: “Last year, over 220 Crawley runners donned a Santa suit to show their support for the vital care we provide to terminally ill patients and their families across Sussex and Surrey. By taking part in our Crawley Santa Run you’ll be helping us make the festive season as comfortable as possible for our patients and those closest to them. Each year, it costs us £180,000 to provide our care over the 12 days of Christmas. With your support we can help patients and families make, what may be their last Christmas together, memorable and continue to be there when they need us most.”
Stuart Davies, from Horsham, will take part in the 5km Crawley Santa Run for the first time.
He said: “I wanted to take part in St Catherine’s Santa Run because I love running, plus this is a great family event which will raise awareness and money for an amazing local charity.”
There will be a special Santa warm up. K2 will sell hot drinks and snacks in their cafe. Local volunteer, Shirley Stow, will also attend with her Christmas craft stall, packed with handmade Christmas cards and plenty more.
Pre-event registration is £13 for adults, £8 for children under 16 and £30 for a family of four. On the day entrants can register by 9.45am.
