Hot weather and Calais strike cause Storrington recycling problems

Around 1,400 households in the village did not have their recycling collected last week.

However, a spokesperson for the council said a team has been deployed in the area today to clear the backlog.

The spokesperson said: “We would like to apologise to those residents in certain areas of Storrington who did not have their recycling collected last week.

“Unfortunately, several of our vehicles experienced technical difficulties due to the exceptional heat.

“We then suffered further delays in getting the vehicles back on the road due to the replacement parts from Europe being caught up in the Calais strike. Some 1,400 properties, of the 100,000 collections we carry out each week, were affected by this chain of events.

“However, a team has been deployed in the area today (Tuesday 7 July) to clear the backlog and the collection crews have been working overtime to catch up.”
