THE JUBILEE Tea Party, organised by Horsham District Council and its business and community partners, brought record numbers of visitors for the time of year to Horsham town centre in early June.
Crowds of people gathered in Horsham town centre at the beginning of June to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and increasing visitor numbers were recorded.
Visitor numbers to Swan Walk shopping centre in Horsham on Monday June 4 were up 33 per cent from the same Monday in 2011.
The number of visitors on the Monday was nearly double what it has been in the past on a normal bank holiday.
Stephen Deller, Store Director at Beales department store in Horsham, said:
“The event was fantastic for us. We enjoyed a great increase in footfall and it was great to see the events that took place all around the town including The Forum.”
The retail and catering sector turnover increased for many businesses in Horsham on the bank holiday, when traditionally Horsham sees a lower than average number of visitors.
Councillor Helena Croft, Horsham District Council cabinet member for communication, special projects and Horsham Town, said: “It was fantastic to see Horsham bustling with life as people celebrated at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Tea Party!
“Once again the team at Horsham District Council have put on another superb event which was much enjoyed by all!”
Gill Buchanan, Manager of Swan Walk shopping centre, said: “Once again Horsham District Council, with the support of the business community, particularly Horsham Markets, has created a truly remarkable event in the town centre which has been a benefit to all.
“Linking business needs to events and encouraging customer circulation around the whole area is key to the ongoing vitality of the town and we look forward to continuing our partnerships in the future.”
Visitor numbers also increased during the popular Piazza Italia 2012 event in April this year.
More events are planned for the rest of the year and details can be found online at www.horshamentertains.co.uk
