Little Barn Owls Nursery & Farm School, in Horsham, is celebrating after winning the ‘Nursery of the Year’ award at the Nursery World Awards on Saturday night.

The Nursery World Awards showcase the best individuals, organisations, initiatives and resources in the early years and education and childcare sector from across the UK.

The Little Barns Owls team were presented with their award at a glittering black tie dinner in London after a nail-biting wait since February when the shortlist was announced.

Hayley Peacock, head of Little Barn Owls, said: #2We are absolutely full of joy and pride at winning the UK’s Nursery of the Year 2015! I am personally incredibly proud of the Little Barn Owls team who work tirelessly to provide the very best education and care to the families we look after.

“The nursery has been developing some very exciting new initiatives this year and although we’ve been recognised as the best, this award will only propel us forward to achieve more great things to help enrich the lives of more children and families.

“We are deeply committed to promoting our unique way of working, largely inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, which has such a deep impact on young children’s development.”

Nursery World Judge and early years consultant Wendy Scott MBE said: “Little Barn Owls are deserving winners because of their insightful and principled way of working, and their deep appreciation of each child.

“Children at Little Barn Owls are genuinely consulted as well as challenged, and given unhurried opportunities for thinking through and enacting their ideas. They are encouraged to reflect on what they have done within the imaginative environment provided by the exceptionally observant and responsive staff.”

The judges were also impressed with the nursery’s reciprocal links with local families including consultation evenings, parent workshops, enrichment classes and an active Parent Nursery Association.

As well as continuing to reflect on its own practice, the nursery is using its drive and enthusiasm to provide a range of professional training and development services. Hayley said: “Our goal is to shine a light on our enquiry based learning approach, offering more early years practitioners the opportunity to be as inspired, creative and passionate about working with young children as we have become. We achieve this through consultancy, workshops and visit days set up at the nursery.’

“We welcome all early years’ organisations and practitioners to attend our upcoming training and development days.”
