Horsham Museum's snapshots of life long ago

When the finger goes down to click the shutter, it captures history in that second, enabling future generations to see the past differently from how they might have otherwise imagined it.

Thanks to the late Cecil Cramp’s determination not to lose such pictures, Horsham District Council’s Horsham Museum is able to stage another small selection of images from his slide collection.

They are not of the standard landmarks of the town, but of the side street, or businesses going about their everyday lives from laying sewer pipes, cleaning carriages, looking after cars to building a new Victorian shop. It is the ‘everyday’ quality of these images, which makes them so special.

The small display runs until May 21.

Horsham Museum & Art Gallery is open Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm, admission free.

The museum will be open on Good Friday and Easter Monday but closed on other public holidays.
