The lights were all installed by last Thursday (November 14), except those in Piries Place, which co-ordinated its own switch on event alongside the unveiling of the West Street redevelopments on Saturday (November 16).

A spokesperson for Horsham District Council said: “The locations and quantity of lights in the core 2013-15 contract remain the same as in the first three years of the previous contract, but the design of the cross street motifs and the effect on the bandstand is different.

“The fixed tree lights in the Carfax are also included in the contract and these will have their life renewed and be maintained over the three years of the contract.

“With the advent of new lighting effects as part of the West Street uplift works, some flexibility has been made within the contract to review West Street Christmas lighting in subsequent years.”

The budget allocated for Horsham town centre’s Christmas lights is drawn from the Neighbourhood Councils’ Special Charge, which Horsham District Council collects and manages on their behalf.

This is approved annually and is currently set at £13,500 plus VAT per year, the same amount that has been made available since 2009.

Shoppers can enjoy its new features while taking advantage of late night store openings from 4pm until 8pm for four Thursdays commencing November 28.
