Horsham chef takes over as head cook at Rowleys centre
New Rowley's chef Ronnie Parsons, 30, from Horsham, had his sights set on becoming a chef at the tender age of 13 when he spent his summer school holidays washing up and helping out at his sister's restaurant in Bembridge, Isle of Wight.
He went on to train at the restaurant when he was 16, learning the ropes and by the time he left age 19, he was second chef – moving to another Isle of Wight restaurant at head chef and later to other posts in busy resorts along the south coast.
Wanting to broaden his culinary skills he went abroad where he worked for Ski Total (Inghams) in Switzerland. The company flew him to France and Austria for specialist training before he moved on to Italy. One of his great loves is cooking Italian food.
More recently, back in the UK, he has worked for local pubs and restaurants but is now turning his attention to providing healthy nutritious food for members of Rowley’s centre in Cranleigh, where he has just started working as head cook at “Robins”, the centres restaurant and snack bar.
Ronnie says he always makes his own pastry, hot puddings, desserts and cakes and is used to catering for large numbers.
Ronnie says there will be lots of hot puddings with the winter weather coming on. Fish and chips will be returning to Rowley’s regularly every Friday and the midweek Wednesday roasts will stay. As he only started on October 3 Ronnie says he is playing it by ear at the moment to find out what Rowley’s members enjoy most.
