Horsham businesses forced to close due to '˜water problems'

Several businesses across Horsham were forced to close today due a to a water mains burst in the area.

Southern Water said supplies were cut off to the town and surrounding villages after an 18-inch main burst along Five Oaks Road in Slinfold earlier today (October 14). To keep up to date see: Horsham mains burst: What we know so far

Several signs appeared in shop windows in Horsham town centre stating premises had shut due to water problems.

A sign in the window of Greggs read: “We’re sorry but we’ve had to close our shop for essential maintenance. We’ll be open again shortly. We’re sorry for any inconvenience. Water supply cut.”

Signs on Panino Cafe, in the Carfax, read: “Due to water problems in the area we are closed. Hopefully see you tomorrow.”

The Pavilions in the Park leisure centre was also forced to close with a spokesman saying: “Due to no running Water our centre will be closed until further notice, we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”

The centre added it was able to reopen again at 2pm.

Thousands of homes were believed to have been affected by the mains burst.

Southern Water said supplies were beginning to return to normal as engineers continue to work to fix the issue.
