Horsham manager Dominic Di Paola has labelled new addition Scott Murfin as the best goalscorer he has even signed.
The prolific frontman and the versatile Adam Hunt were the final signings before Hornets’ Southern Combination League Premier Division kicks-off on Saturday.
Murfin, who bagged 34 goals in 42 games for Pagham last season and had been a big part of their squad for the past five years, had initially signed for Chichester City at the start of pre-season, but has transferred to Horsham to spearhead their attack.
Hunt, who played his part in East Preston’s title winning side two season’s ago, is another Di Paola has been chasing the past few months.
The manager said: “It came out the blue (Murfin) as he had signed for Chi, but I do not think he was going to play there as he was getting really frustrated. I got a sniff of it and put a seven-dayer.
“He’s 29 and wants to try and win something before he finishes as I do not think he has won as much as with his talent he should of.
“I have been after him for five years and spoke to him and Christmas for the first time at East Preston in county two, I have tried to sign him every season since.
“He is probably the best striker we have ever signed as a management team in terms of a goal scorer and it’s something we have been lacking in pre-season really is a clinical finisher.”
On Hunt, Di Paola added: “Hunty has been with us all season. He was a bit concerned that he wouldn’t be playing every game, but he is a good player and should be playing a lot. He is probably our most versatile player and in that respect it should stand him in good stead.”
