Patcham Silver Youth Band helped Henfield Friends of St. Barnabas raise almost £150 with a concert at the Free Church in the High Street.
Musical director Sandra Clinton led the band in a medley of numbers, from the James Bond theme to Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody and rousing hymns and show tunes.
The band, with members ranging from ages eight to 17, was cheered by a generous Saturday afternoon audience.
Fred McComas, Henfield Friends of St. Barnabas event organiser, said: “It was a great afternoon and the music was fantastic from such young performers.”
Sandra said: “I think people are surprised that young musicians can be so disciplined when it comes to performing difficult numbers in public.”
Patcham Silver Youth Band is looking for new members. In the last year they have performed at fetes, formal concerts and during the Henfield Gardens and Arts festival.
In February they won the ensemble prize at the Southern Counties Amateur Band Association Quartets and Ensembles competition.’
