Guides enjoy special pop concert

Guides from Billingshurst, Plaistow, Loxwood and Ifold travelled to London earlier this month for a special 15th anniversary pop concert.

2nd Billingshurst and 1st Plaistow joined a girl-only crowd of 15,000 at Girlguiding’s BIG GIG held at Wembley Arena on Saturday July 2.

The 28 girls, all aged between ten and 14, enjoyed performances from a stellar line-up including Jess Glynne, fresh from Glastonbury, and Fleur East.

Aimee,14, said: “Best night of my life so far!”

Since starting in 2001, Girlguiding’s BIG GIG has entertained and inspired over 30,000 Guides and members of The Senior Section (young women aged 14 to 25), with past acts including Calvin Harris and Olly Murs.

Sue Morris and fellow Guide Leaders led the girls on their adventure to Wembley.

Natalie Evans, unit leader 2nd Billingshurst Guides added: “My first Big Gig which was fantastic! The acts got better and better with Jess Glynne and Lawson being my highlights. My girls were a joy to take out for the evening and a credit to Guiding.”

The BIG GIG is an annual event hosted exclusively for Girlguiding members aged ten plus from all over the UK.

Events such as the BIG GIG are possible thanks to generous funding from players of the People’s Postcode Lottery.

Girlguiding offers a host of amazing opportunities to girls and young women aged five to 25, from international travel and outdoor adventure sports to peer mentoring, advocacy and leadership skills.
