GCSEs: Billingshurst’s Weald School sees a bumper crop of top results

Head teacher, Peter Woodman, said he is ‘really pleased’ with the overall results, which saw 70 per cent of students attaining five or more GCSEs at A* to C, including English and maths.

Mr Woodman said: “Today was another really uplifting day at The Weald. It was fantastic to see the looks on student faces as they opened envelopes to see their results and that the hard work that they had put in over the last three years has paid off.

“Getting good results opens doors and gives choices to their next phase of education.

The results show another step forward in achievement for us as a school. Most pleasing was that students from across the whole ability range have done well and reached and exceeded their targets.”

Lara Smith, 16, has achieved 7A*s 4As and 1B and will be attending Collyer’s in September.

She said: “I’m so relieved, it’s exceeded my expectations. Hopefully I’ll go into architecture when I’m older.”

Another top performer is Eleanor Schirn who received 10 A*s and 1 A.

“I’m ecstatic - it’s brilliant. I definitely got what I was hoping for. I’m going to stay at the Weald and then maybe university to do something in research,” said the 16-year-old.

Also relieved to see his results was Ryan Constable, 16.

The American-born student said he is looking forward to starting his A-levels, which will include psychology.

He said: “I feel better than I did this morning (laughs).

“I’m going to the Weald Sixth Form, In the future I’d like a career with something in media.”

Peter Woodman also noted “We have been thrilled with the depth of highest performers this year with over 15 per cent of the year group achieving 8 or more A* or A grades.”

Matthew Clemens, 16, achieved 4A*s and 6As.

He said: “I’m really happy, but glad the wait is over. I’m going to stay on at the Weald and then move onto dentistry.”
