Hudson Prescod, 39, of St Vincent, was sentenced at Croydon Crown Court on Monday (May 23) after Border Force officers discovered more than 2kg of the drugs concealed in his suitcase on April 17, said the Home Office.

A Home Office spokesman said: “Border Force officers examined Prescod’s luggage after he arrived at Gatwick on 17 April on a flight from St Lucia. A sharp probe inserted into the base of a suitcase revealed a white paste substance, which later tested positive for cocaine. More than 2kgs of the Class A drug were found to be concealed within the false bottom of the suitcase.

“Prescod was detained and the case was passed to the National Crime Agency’s Gatwick Border Investigation Team. NCA experts estimate that the cocaine found would have had a likely potential value of more than £300,000 if cut and sold in the UK.”

Sue Young, Border Force South Director said: “The expertise of Border Force officers is often the crucial first step in bringing to justice individuals who attempt to bring dangerous drugs into the country. In this case, a large amount of cocaine has been kept off the UK’s streets and the person responsible has been handed a lengthy jail sentence.

“Working closely with law enforcement colleagues at the NCA we are determined to prevent drug trafficking and put those responsible behind bars.”
