Fun at Washington Village Day

Games, stalls, a laser clay shooting stand and the chance to learn about ferrets, as well as stroke them, combined with a popular dog show to ensure there was something for everyone.

Main arena events included a demonstration of successful dog training by Findon Downs Dog training club, which holds regular sessions in Washington Village Hall.

A local Washington dog, Beth, a five-year-old cocker cross springer spaniel, won the Best Small Dog class in the dog show and went on to be named Reserve Champion. Owned by Neil Manser, she was shown by Washington Primary School pupils, Kate and Rachel Armstrong.

At the other end of the scale was a seven-stone Leonberger dog named Evie. She was a star attraction in the dog training display, where her owner Tony Underwood demonstrated good control techniques.

Winner of the Flower and Produce Cup at the annual show held in the village hall was Geoffrey Alse, with a variety of wins across the classes.

A raffle for a Harrods Teddy Bear, resulted in the sale of more than 1,000 tickets, with proceeds going towards continued improvements at Washington Village Hall.

Victors in the main tug of war were Haybarn, sponsored by C R Scott.
