Four fire engines tackle blaze in Crawley residential street

West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said it was alerted to the fire in a garden at a property on Brock Road in Crawley at 3.42pm this afternoon after reports of a ‘loud bang’ which possibly came from a garden shed.

A spokesman added: “Two fire engines from Crawley and two from Horsham Fire Station were mobilised to the scene.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three hose reels, two jets and a hydrant to bring the fire under control, which had spread to the main building.

“They remained at the scene turning over and damping down and used a thermal imaging camera to ensure there were no further hotspots.”

The fire caused around 30 square metres of damage to the ground floor of the property, he said.

The spokesman added: “Fortunately there were no casualties involved in this incident, and the fire is believed to have started accidentally.

“The last appliance left the scene at 5.57pm.”
