Fire service investigating cause of Crawley house blaze

Two fire engines from Crawley Fire Station were mobilised to the fire on Medway Road in Gossops Green followed by a crew and Aerial Ladder Platform from Horsham and two Surrey FRS fire engines, the fire service said.

Crews were called after several people phoned 999 to report a house’s roof was on fire at 6.36pm last night, May 13.

A spokesman added: “Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were able to quickly extinguish the fire inside the building using hose reels and fog nails.

“The Aerial Ladder Platform was used to deploy PV Stop to isolate solar panels on the roof and externally fight the fire.

“The service’s Technical Rescue Unit also supported the incident by deploying the drone for thermal scanning of the roof.”

Officers from Sussex Police and the South East Coast Ambulance Service were also on the scene, and the road was closed while emergency services were on scene to allow them to work safely, the fire service said.

The spokesman added: “The last crew booked away from the scene at 9.26pm, with officers returning this morning to carry out a reinspection to ensure there were no further signs of fire. The cause of fire remains under investigation.”
