A MOTHER has spoken of the moment she believed her young son was dying after he was impaled by a handlebar on his bike.
Kyle Otto, from Partridge Green, is lucky to be alive after he was horrifically injured while with a friend in woodland off South Street in the village.
Speaking exclusively to the County Times mum Lisa-Jayne Campbell, 47, said the handlebar grips on the 12-year-old’s bike kept slipping so the youngster took them off.
The Steyning Grammar School pupil went over a small sand mound and the back wheel came out from under him on Thursday last week, she said.
“He fell on top of the bike, because there was no grip it sliced through him.”
Lisa said her son had suffered a fractured pelvis adding: “It would have gone right through him if it hadn’t hit his pelvic bone.”
He managed to roll off the bike and onto the floor. “He shouted to his friend ‘I’ve been stabbed by the bike’. He lifted up his t-shirt and there was a hole there.”
Kyle gave his mobile phone to his friend and Lisa added: “He just said tell my mother I’m dying.”
