Event with MP for older people

“Are you worried that if you (or a parent or partner) are seriously injured or taken seriously ill, that there will be an ambulance available? that there are sufficient doctors and nurses to treat you? Lack of hospital beds? Lack of local authority finance for care packages? Getting an appointment with a GP? Availability of transport to and from hospital? Bank closures in your village? Lack of care homes? Housing? Mobility scooters? Brexit?”

The Horsham District Older Peoples Forum still has places for local older people to attend its ‘MP Question Time’ event and ask those or other questions.

Martin Bruton went on to say: “The ‘MP Question Time’ meeting gives older people aged 60+ living in the Horsham District or those that care for someone who is, the genuine opportunity of meeting a local MP, putting their questions and listening to the MP’s views and answers.

“If local older people don’t raise their genuine fears, concerns and problems then how do we expect our local politicians to become aware and take action to bring those to the attention of the government, ministers and local authorities? If problems are not raised, then how will solutions be found and action taken?

“I am afraid that older people perhaps don’t want to ‘rock the boat’ or ‘bang the drum’, believe our politicians should already know what the issues are so ‘what’s the point’, or trust that someone else will raise the problems or are simply hoping that ‘it won’t happen to them’.

“This meeting is a safe, friendly and non-political opportunity to talk about the daily problems faced by older people, how it affects them and importantly be able to show their strength of feeling.”

This event is free to attend and runs from 10.30am until 1pm on Friday March 2 at the Council Offices, ground floor, Parkside, Chart Way, Horsham with Jeremy Quin, MP for Horsham.

Free tea/coffee from 10.15am.

If you have a question related to older people that you would like put to Jeremy Quin MP at the meeting, or asked even if you can’t attend the meeting, please contact or email that to the Forum before the event if you can so that a fair range of questions can be put in the time available, plus, if research is needed, Mr Quin will have the answer on the day.

Problems, issues and concerns of local older people can always be raised with the Horsham District Older Peoples Forum and discussed at its quarterly public meetings held around the district.

The following meeting is 10.30am – 1pm Wednesday May 30 at Billingshurst Community Centre.
