A school which had been told to improve by Ofsted has now been rated ‘good’ with some ‘outstanding’ features.

Cranleigh CE Primary underwent a two-day inspection headed by lead Ofsted inspector Lee Selby – and his findings left headteacher Sarah Albery “delighted”.

Praising the culture of high expectation established by Mrs Albery, Mr Selby described teaching at Cranleigh as “consistently good with some examples of exemplary practice”.

He added: “The tenacious and respected headteacher has developed a team of leaders and teachers who have a shared determination to achieve the very best for all pupils in the school.

“There is a clear culture of high expectations and a positive sense of togetherness, ensuring that pupils can realise their potential.”

Pupils at Cranleigh were seen to be making at least expected progress with many making more rapid gains.

Outcomes at the end of Key Stage 2 were above the national averages in reading, writing and maths.

Mrs Albery said the hard work and commitment of her team had been validated by the ‘outstanding’ ratings given in the areas of leadership and management, behaviour and safety, and early years provision.

She added: “Cranleigh Primary is an excellent school and we are delighted to have recognition of this from Ofsted.

“The staff, pupils and governors are a real credit to the school and I cannot thank them enough for all they have done to help make Cranleigh Primary such a wonderful school.”
